WISH CEO Egbert Schillings addresses national cancer institute directors in Lyon

Mr Egbert Schillings, CEO of the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), addressed directors of cancer institutes on the second day of the 9th meeting of National Cancer Institute Directors (NCID) held in Lyon, France from 9-11 July 2014. The event was hosted by the International Prevention Research Institute (iPRI) is an independent research institute with a strong record on advancing the global research agenda, especially in the area of non-communicable diseases.
The Annual NCID meeting focuses on cancer care and brings together participants from countries at varying stages of their healthcare system development to share expertise that is invaluable to improving worldwide cancer prevention.
During his talk on the World Innovation Summit and its 2014/15 research focus on cancer care, Mr Schillings underscored the importance of implementing changes across healthcare systems in order to deliver affordable, efficient cancer care around the globe.
Mr Schillings said: “The number of new cancer cases around the world is continuously increasing and the associated costs are rising at an even faster rate. Now, more than ever, the global healthcare community needs to come together to provide innovative solutions for delivering affordable cancer care. Only through interdisciplinary research and close collaboration can we provide quality patient care while fighting against the unsustainable burden on healthcare systems. Our Delivering Affordable Cancer Care Forum will make valuable contributions through providing actionable recommendations to policymakers so as to ‘bend the cost curve’ and ensure sustainable access to cancer care.”
Over the course of several months, the WISH Delivering Affordable Cancer Care Forum members – led by a Chair who provides intellectual direction and supported by a research team – will work toward conceiving an end-to-end cancer care vision, emphasizing information transparency, enabling financial reform and support, and developing a support system for technology adoption. Together, they will use world-class evidence-based content to promote cancer care affordability through policy, strategy and information.
